HPC-A (Hematopoietic Progenitor Cells, Apheresis) is a cellular therapy product composed of donor-derived hematopoietic progenitor cells that have been mobilized with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) and collected via apheresis. In the microtransplantation protocol developed by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, HPC-A is being evaluated for the treatment of pediatric and young adult patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), or acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The therapy involves the infusion of these donor cells following non-myeloablative chemotherapy to induce a graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect. This approach aims to provide anti-leukemic activity through transient donor cell persistence, offering a potentially safer and less intensive alternative to traditional full-match allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation by reducing the risk of severe complications such as graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
