HPC Cord Blood is an allogeneic cell therapy product consisting of hematopoietic progenitor cells derived from human umbilical cord blood and placenta. It is indicated for use in unrelated donor hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation procedures in conjunction with an appropriate preparative regimen for the reconstitution of the hematopoietic and immune systems in patients with disorders affecting the hematopoietic system that are inherited, acquired, or result from myeloablative treatment. After intravenous administration, these cells migrate to the bone marrow where they divide and mature into functional blood and immune cells[1][2][5]. The mechanism of action involves engraftment and repopulation of bone marrow by multipotent stem/progenitor cells capable of differentiating into various lineages including erythrocytes, leukocytes (including lymphocytes), and platelets[5][10]. HPC Cord Blood has been used primarily for malignant (e.g., leukemia) and non-malignant (e.g., hemoglobinopathies) diseases requiring stem cell transplantation. Recent clinical trials have also explored its use in post-COVID syndrome[7].
