**HPC-doxorubicin** is an intravesical, mucosa-adhesive formulation of the anthracycline antineoplastic agent doxorubicin using hydroxypropylcellulose as a bladder-retentive polymer vehicle. It was developed for superficial bladder carcinoma, including Ta-T1 disease, to prolong local doxorubicin exposure and preferentially retain drug in bladder tumor tissue relative to conventional aqueous doxorubicin. Doxorubicin intercalates DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, causing DNA damage and tumor-cell death. Early clinical reports from Nagoya City University evaluated single-dose intravesical administration and administration combined with local hyperthermia.
