Overview

The HPV bivalent (types 16, 18) vaccine is a recombinant vaccine designed to prevent infections caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 and 18. These two HPV types are responsible for a significant majority of cervical cancer cases and other HPV-related diseases. The vaccine contains non-infectious virus-like particles (VLPs) composed of the L1 capsid proteins from HPV types 16 and 18. Upon administration, these VLPs stimulate the immune system to produce protective antibodies, thereby conferring immunity against future infections by these specific HPV types. Examples include Walrinvax, developed by Shanghai Zerun Biotechnology Co.,Ltd., and Cervarix, developed by GlaxoSmithKline.
