Overview

HPV-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (HPV-CTLs) are a form of adoptive cell therapy used to treat HPV-associated cancers. These are T cells that specifically target human papillomavirus (HPV) antigens, particularly the E6 and E7 oncoproteins expressed by HPV-infected cancer cells. Upon infusion, these CTLs induce selective toxicity in HPV-positive cancer cells and other HPV-infected cells. Clinical trials have shown that HPV-CTLs can mediate durable, complete regression of metastatic cervical cancer in some patients, with ongoing responses observed for up to 18 months after treatment.
