The HPV Vaccine (L2) is a preclinical plant-derived vaccine candidate developed by Advanced Cancer Therapeutics (ACT) and licensed from the James Graham Brown Cancer Center. It is designed to prevent human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and associated cervical cancer. The vaccine utilizes a tobacco mosaic plant-based expression system to produce the HPV L2 minor capsid protein. Unlike current commercial vaccines that primarily target the L1 protein and are type-specific, vaccines targeting the L2 protein aim to elicit broadly neutralizing antibody responses against a wide range of oncogenic HPV genotypes due to the highly conserved nature of the L2 protein across different strains.
