Overview

The E7 polypeptide is a protein fragment derived from the Human Papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) E7 oncoprotein, which is a primary driver of cellular transformation in HPV-associated malignancies. It is utilized as a tumor-associated antigen in the design of therapeutic cancer vaccines. Research, particularly from institutions like INSERM and Institut Curie, has focused on using the E7 polypeptide in conjunction with delivery vectors like the B subunit of Shiga toxin (STxB) to target dendritic cells. This approach aims to elicit robust CD8+ T cell responses. Studies indicate that intranasal administration of E7-based vaccines can induce mucosal immunity, which is critical for inhibiting the growth of orthotopic head and neck and lung cancers.
