Overview

HR1801 is a sustained-release injection of bupivacaine hydrochloride developed by Nanjing Heron Pharmaceutical for the management of post-operative pain. Categorized as a Class 2 improved new drug in China, it is designed to provide long-lasting local anesthesia by slowly releasing bupivacaine at the site of administration, thereby extending the duration of analgesia and potentially reducing the requirement for systemic opioids. Bupivacaine, the active ingredient, is a potent local anesthetic that works by binding to and blocking voltage-gated sodium channels on the neuronal membrane, which prevents the influx of sodium ions and the subsequent initiation and conduction of nerve impulses.
