HRG2010(II)

HRG2010(II) is an investigational, oral, modified-release formulation of levodopa and a decarboxylase inhibitor (typically carbidopa), developed by Jiangsu HengRui Medicine for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. It is specifically designed to manage motor fluctuations in patients by providing more consistent plasma levels of levodopa, thereby reducing "off" periods and the risk of dyskinesia associated with fluctuating dopamine levels. The drug has progressed to Phase III clinical trials in China, where its efficacy and safety are being compared to standard sustained-release levodopa/carbidopa or levodopa/benserazide treatments. As a dopamine precursor, levodopa is converted into dopamine in the central nervous system to alleviate motor symptoms, while the co-formulated inhibitor prevents its premature peripheral metabolism.
