Overview

HRS-1596 is an orally administered, long-acting dual agonist of the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor. Developed by Fujian Shengdi Pharmaceutical (a subsidiary of Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals) in collaboration with Beijing Tuojie Biomedical Technology, the drug is formulated as a tablet designed for once-weekly oral administration. Preclinical studies in animal models of obesity and diabetes have demonstrated significant weight reduction and improvement in blood glucose-related parameters. It is currently in Phase I clinical development for the treatment of obesity (weight management) and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
