HRS-2261 is an orally administered, novel small molecule drug developed as a selective antagonist of the Purinergic P2X3 receptor. It is being investigated primarily for the treatment of chronic cough, particularly refractory or unexplained chronic cough—a condition with limited approved therapeutic options. The drug acts by inhibiting the purinergic P2X3 receptor, which plays a role in sensory nerve signaling associated with cough reflex hypersensitivity.
