HRS9531 is a novel synthetic peptide drug that acts as a dual agonist of the glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor and the gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP) receptor. It is being developed for chronic weight management in obesity and for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Clinical trials have demonstrated that once-weekly subcutaneous injections of HRS9531 result in significant reductions in body weight, blood pressure, blood glucose, and triglycerides compared to placebo. In phase 2 studies involving obese adults without diabetes, participants achieved up to 16.8% mean weight loss at higher doses over 24 weeks; an extended trial with an 8 mg dose showed a mean placebo-adjusted weight loss of over 21% at week 36[6][5][2]. The safety profile is favorable and consistent with other GLP-1/GIP receptor agonists—most adverse events are mild or moderate gastrointestinal symptoms occurring during dose escalation[4][5]. The drug is being advanced into global phase 3 programs by its developers.
