HS-104 is a novel small molecule inhibitor of the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) signaling pathway. It was developed as a potential therapeutic agent for solid tumors, with a specific focus on pancreatic cancer. HS-104 acts by inhibiting the PI3K/Akt and RAF/Mek/Erk pathways, which are critical for cell proliferation, survival, and angiogenesis. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that HS-104 works synergistically with gemcitabine to reduce cell viability, induce apoptosis through the mitochondrial pathway (evidenced by increased Bax and cleaved caspase-3 levels), and suppress tumor growth and blood vessel formation in vivo. The compound has been shown to decrease the expression of proliferation and angiogenesis markers such as PCNA and CD34 in tumor tissues.
