HS-10522 is an orally administered small molecule inhibitor of aldosterone synthase (CYP11B2), currently under development by Hansoh Pharmaceutical for the treatment of hypertension and primary aldosteronism. By inhibiting CYP11B2, the enzyme responsible for the final steps of aldosterone biosynthesis in the adrenal cortex, HS-10522 aims to reduce pathological aldosterone levels. This mechanism is particularly relevant for patients with primary aldosteronism or resistant hypertension, where excess aldosterone contributes to elevated blood pressure and cardiovascular damage. The drug is designed to be selective for CYP11B2 over the closely related enzyme CYP11B1 (11β-hydroxylase), which is involved in cortisol synthesis, thereby minimizing potential side effects related to adrenal insufficiency.
