Overview

HS-20004 is a biosimilar candidate of semaglutide, a long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist developed by Jiangsu Hansoh Pharmaceutical. It is designed to mimic the action of endogenous GLP-1 by binding to and activating the GLP-1 receptor. This activation enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon secretion, and slows gastric emptying, thereby improving glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. As a biosimilar, it aims to provide a therapeutic profile comparable to the reference product (Ozempic/Wegovy) in terms of safety, tolerability, and efficacy. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials, including studies assessing the tolerability of weekly-dose titration in diabetic patients.
