Overview

HS4-20 is an aqueous chlorine-based therapeutic developed by Hypo-Stream Ltd, designed for delivery to the respiratory tract via a nebulized aerosol. The formulation contains low-level chlorine in water, which acts as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent. Its mechanism of action involves the oxidative neutralization of viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens upon contact with the respiratory mucosa. The drug was primarily investigated as a potential treatment for respiratory infections, including COVID-19, by reducing the pathogen load in the lungs. A Phase I safety study (NCT04561141) was conducted in the United Kingdom to evaluate the tolerability of escalating exposure durations in both healthy adult and pediatric volunteers.
