hSET1 antisense is an experimental antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) designed to target and inhibit the expression of the human SET domain-containing protein 1 (hSET1), a core component of the histone methyltransferase (HMT) complex. hSET1 is responsible for the trimethylation of histone H3 at lysine 4 (H3K4me3), an epigenetic mark associated with active gene transcription. Because hSET1 is frequently overexpressed in various malignancies, including colorectal cancer, its inhibition is explored as a strategy to suppress tumor cell proliferation and survival. Research has focused on delivering this antisense via specialized nanoparticle systems, such as cysteine trimethyl chitosan (cysTMC) and carboxymethyl dextran (CMD) complexes, often in combination with chemotherapeutic agents like SN38 to achieve synergistic anti-tumor effects.
