HSF1 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of Heat Shock Factor 1 (HSF1), a master transcriptional regulator of the heat shock response. HSF1 coordinates the expression of various molecular chaperones, such as HSP70, which are essential for maintaining protein homeostasis and protecting cells against stressors like oxidative stress, inflammation, and protein aggregation. In research contexts, HSF1 siRNA is utilized as a tool to investigate the role of the HSF1/HSP70 pathway in neuroprotection and disease pathogenesis. For instance, in in vitro models of Parkinson's disease, HSF1 siRNA is used to demonstrate how the downregulation of this factor can attenuate the protective effects of antioxidants like melatonin against neurotoxic insults. While primarily used as a research reagent, HSF1 inhibition is also a subject of interest in oncology, where HSF1 often supports the survival and proteostasis of malignant cells.
