Overview

HSK16149 + acetyl-L-carnitine is an investigational combination therapy being studied primarily for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain. HSK16149 is an oral small-molecule GABA analogue that selectively binds to the calcium channel α2δ subunits (α2δ-1 and α2δ-2), reducing calcium influx into neurons, which decreases glutamate and norepinephrine release, resulting in analgesic, antiepileptic, and antianxiety effects. Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR) is a naturally occurring amino acid derivative that modulates mitochondrial function, exhibits neuroprotective properties, and has demonstrated moderate effectiveness in reducing neuropathic pain. The combination aims to leverage the synergistic analgesic and neuroprotective properties of both agents to improve outcomes in diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain[1][2][4][5][6].
