HSP-MUC1 is a therapeutic cancer vaccine candidate developed by Beijing Diwei Huayu Biotechnology for the treatment of MUC1-positive cancers, primarily breast cancer. The drug is a recombinant fusion protein consisting of a heat shock protein (HSP) and the Mucin 1 (MUC1) antigen. MUC1 is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is overexpressed and aberrantly glycosylated in many adenocarcinomas, making it a significant target for immunotherapy. The HSP component of the fusion protein acts as a molecular chaperone and a potent immunological adjuvant, facilitating the uptake and cross-presentation of the MUC1 antigen by professional antigen-presenting cells, such as dendritic cells. This mechanism is designed to stimulate a robust cellular immune response, specifically activating cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) to recognize and eliminate tumor cells expressing the MUC1 antigen.
