Overview
**HSV-2 VLM** is a preclinical DNA-based gene therapy vaccine candidate from **Virothera** for prevention and treatment of **herpes simplex virus type 2 infection**. It uses the company's **Virus Like Membranes** antigen delivery platform to express multiple HSV-2 viral entry complex genes encoding prefusion membrane glycoprotein complexes, including **gB, gD, gH, and gL**, stabilized in cell membranes to present the viral entry machinery to the immune system. The intended mechanism is induction of protective immune responses against HSV-2 fusion and entry antigens, with reported preclinical guinea pig data showing protection against acute HSV-2 disease and reduction of viral replication and latency establishment. The program is described as being in **IND-enabling preclinical development**, with support through an **NIH/NIAID** program.
