Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HTD1801 is a first-in-class ionic salt of berberine and ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) being developed by HighTide Biopharma. This novel molecular entity is designed to address multiple metabolic and liver disorders simultaneously by leveraging the synergistic effects of its two active components. Berberine acts as a metabolic regulator that activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and inhibits the expression of PCSK9, thereby lowering LDL cholesterol and improving glucose metabolism. Ursodeoxycholic acid is a hydrophilic bile acid that provides hepatoprotective effects, modulates the bile acid pool, and reduces liver inflammation. HTD1801 is currently under clinical investigation for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH/MASH), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), and type 2 diabetes.
