HTL0018318 is a selective muscarinic acetylcholine receptor M1 partial agonist developed as a small-molecule drug for the symptomatic treatment of dementias, including Alzheimer's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. It acts by selectively activating the muscarinic M1 receptor in the central nervous system to enhance cholinergic neurotransmission and improve cognitive function. The compound was originally developed by Heptares Therapeutics (now part of Nxera Pharma) and has been co-developed or licensed at various times by Sosei Group Corporation and Allergan. Clinical trials have shown that it is generally well-tolerated in elderly subjects at doses up to 25 mg, with common adverse events including hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), nausea, and hot flushes.
