Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HU-53 is an experimental, selective neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) inhibitor developed by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. It is designed to reduce nitric oxide (NO) levels and alleviate nitrosative stress. In preclinical studies, HU-53 has demonstrated the ability to reverse autistic phenotypes, including synaptic and neuronal deficits, in mouse models of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Additionally, HU-53 has shown potential in oncology, where it inhibits neuroblastoma and glioblastoma tumor growth by suppressing the NO-mTOR signaling axis, leading to decreased tumor weight and volume, and reduced cell proliferation.
