Hu-PHEC (postnatal human hemogenic endothelial cells) is a proprietary cell therapy technology developed by Hemogenyx Pharmaceuticals. Discovered by Dr. Vladislav Sandler, Hu-PHECs are a specialized sub-class of progenitor cells that serve as a precursor to hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), which are responsible for generating all major blood cell types. The technology aims to provide a source of cancer-free HSCs for bone marrow transplants, as these cells do not carry the mutations or chromosomal rearrangements typically found in blood cancers. Hu-PHECs can be isolated from sources such as umbilical cord blood or liver biopsies and are being developed for the treatment of various blood cancers and potentially autoimmune diseases, offering a potential alternative to traditional donor-based bone marrow transplants.
