Overview

hu11E6 is a humanized monoclonal antibody developed for the treatment and prevention of pertussis (whooping cough), an infection caused by the bacterium *Bordetella pertussis*. It specifically targets the pertussis toxin (PTx), a major virulence factor produced by the bacteria. hu11E6 works by binding to the toxin and blocking its interaction with host cell receptors, thereby preventing the toxin's entry into cells and subsequent cellular damage. Developed by Theriva Biologics (formerly Synthetic Biologics) in collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin and Precigen (formerly Intrexon), hu11E6 is typically utilized as a component of the combination therapy SYN-005, alongside another antibody, hu1B7. This combination has shown synergistic effects in neutralizing the toxin and reducing symptoms like leukocytosis in preclinical models and has been evaluated in early-stage clinical trials.
