Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hua-Yu Qiang-Shen Tong-Bi Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology at Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine. It is primarily used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), with over 20 years of clinical observation supporting its efficacy[2][3][9]. The decoction consists of ten herbs and contains active compounds such as danshensu, 3-caffeoylquinic acid, caffeic acid, paeoniflorin, rutin, quercetin, rosmarinic acid, salvigenin, calycosin, and glycyrrhizic acid[2]. Mechanistically, it exerts anti-inflammatory effects by upregulating miR-125b to suppress casein kinase 2 (CK2), which in turn inhibits NF-kappa-B (NF-κB)-induced inflammation. This leads to reduced production of pro-inflammatory cytokines like interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and interleukin-6 (IL-6)[3][5]. Clinical studies have shown that when combined with methotrexate (MTX), it improves signs and symptoms in patients with active RA[1][7].
