Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hualan influenza mRNA vaccine is an investigational messenger RNA (mRNA)-based vaccine developed by Hualan Biological Vaccine for the prevention of influenza. The vaccine utilizes mRNA technology to deliver genetic instructions encoding influenza virus-related antigens, such as hemagglutinin. Upon administration, host cells express these antigens, triggering a robust humoral and cellular immune response against the targeted influenza strains. This platform offers advantages over traditional egg-based or cell-based manufacturing, including flexible antigen design and shorter production cycles, which allow for rapid updates in response to seasonal antigenic drift. In September 2026, the vaccine received clinical trial approval (IND) from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), making it the first domestic influenza mRNA vaccine cleared for clinical trials in China.
