Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huangci Granule, also known as the Bushen Jiedu Sanjie Formula, is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). It is composed of six botanical ingredients: *Ligustrum lucidum*, *Cistanche deserticola*, snakeberry (*Duchesnea indica*), edible tulip (*Tulipa edulis*), *Salvia miltiorrhiza*, and Fruit of Fiverleaf Akebia (*Akebia trifoliata*). The formulation is intended for use as an adjunctive therapy alongside standard-of-care chemotherapy (such as mFOLFOX6 or FOLFIRI) and targeted biological agents like cetuximab or bevacizumab. Huangci Granule is specifically indicated for patients exhibiting Kidney Deficiency and Damp-heat syndromes in TCM. Clinical evidence from randomized, double-blind trials suggests that the combination therapy significantly prolongs progression-free survival (PFS) and improves quality of life by reducing adverse effects like fatigue, appetite loss, and leukopenia. Its pharmacological actions include the inhibition of tumor cell proliferation and the suppression of angiogenesis via the modulation of the HIF-1α/VEGF signaling pathway, as well as myeloprotective effects through the promotion of bone marrow hematopoietic stem cell proliferation.
