Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huangfeng decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, specifically within the rheumatology department led by experts such as Professor Fan Yongsheng. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and associated complications like antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS). The decoction is designed to address the TCM pathogenesis of 'deficiency of qi and yin' and 'blood stasis and internal heat.' Pharmacologically, it has been shown to regulate immune function by modulating T-cell subsets (increasing Treg cells and decreasing Th17 cells), reducing the production of autoantibodies (such as anti-dsDNA and anti-cardiolipin antibodies), and inhibiting inflammatory cytokines. It also exhibits anticoagulant and antithrombotic properties, which are particularly beneficial for patients with APS to prevent thrombotic events and pregnancy loss.
