Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The combination of **Huangkui capsule** (an extract of Abelmoschus manihot) and **irbesartan** is a therapeutic regimen assessed for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy, primarily in patients with type 2 diabetes. Huangkui capsule contains flavonoids such as rutin, hyperoside, isoquercitrin, gossypetin-8-O-β-D-glucuronide, myricetin, quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucuronide, and quercetin, and acts to ameliorate kidney injury via anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects, potentially modulating the gut–kidney axis. Irbesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) primarily used as an antihypertensive with renoprotective effects. Clinical trials and meta-analyses indicate that their combination provides a greater reduction in albuminuria/proteinuria and improvements in renal function markers compared to irbesartan or ARB alone, without additional adverse events. The combination is typically administered orally and examined in Chinese patient populations for diabetic kidney disease and related renal pathologies[1][4].
