The formula typically consists of Coptis chinensis (Huanglian), Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Gancao), Zingiber officinale (Shengjiang), and sometimes other herbs depending on the specific historical source or clinical application[4]. Huanglian Decoction exerts its effects by repairing gastric mucosal injury, regulating inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1, increasing intestinal probiotics, and promoting gut microbiota homeostasis. Its pharmacological actions include anti-inflammatory effects, modulation of the intestinal microbiome, and support for gastrointestinal mucosal healing[4]. The mechanism involves reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines in damaged tissue and enhancing beneficial bacterial populations in the gut.
