Overview
Huanglianejiao capsule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Dong-E-E-Jiao in collaboration with Dongzhimen Hospital affiliated to Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. It is derived from the classic TCM formula 'Huanglian Ejiao Decoction' (黄连阿胶汤), which traditionally consists of Coptis chinensis (huanglian), Donkey-hide gelatin (ejiao), Scutellaria baicalensis (huangqin), Paeonia lactiflora (baishao), and Poria cocos (fuling). The capsule is being developed for the treatment of chronic primary insomnia, specifically targeting the TCM pattern of yin deficiency with excessive fire (or lack of interaction between the heart and kidney). It has been evaluated in Phase III clinical trials in China.
