Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huangqi granules is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparation formulated from the extract of Radix Astragali (the dried root of *Astragalus membranaceus* or *Astragalus mongholicus*). It is widely used in China to tonify Qi, strengthen superficial resistance, and promote diuresis to reduce edema. Pharmacologically, Huangqi granules exhibit immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiviral properties, primarily attributed to active components such as astragalosides, flavonoids (e.g., calycosin, formononetin), and polysaccharides. The preparation is approved in China for the treatment of Qi deficiency and the prevention of recurrent respiratory tract infections. It has also been investigated as a supportive or therapeutic option in pediatric patients with COVID-19, asthma, viral myocarditis, and nephrotic syndrome.
