huangqin zongganyuan

Huangqin zongganyuan is a standardized pharmaceutical extract containing the total aglycones—primarily baicalein, wogonin, and oroxylin A—derived from the root of *Scutellaria baicalensis* Georgi. Developed by China Pharmaceutical University, it is being investigated as a therapeutic candidate for type III prostatitis, also known as chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS). The extract exhibits potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties by inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway, reducing the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), and suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β). These mechanisms collectively work to reduce prostatic inflammation, alleviate pelvic pain, and improve urinary function in patients with chronic non-bacterial prostatitis.
