Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huangtengsu is a traditional Chinese proprietary medicine derived from Fibraurea recisa (Chinese name “huangteng”), formulated mainly as tablets and soft capsules and standardized for palmatine-type isoquinoline alkaloids with broad-spectrum antibacterial and antiviral activity.[1][3][7][14] It is used clinically in China for “clearing heat and detoxification” and is indicated for gynecologic inflammatory diseases, bacillary dysentery, enteritis, respiratory and urinary tract infections, postoperative or surgical wound infections, and conjunctivitis.[1][3][5][7] Pharmacologic studies of Fibraurea recisa and its alkaloids report anti-inflammatory, anti-infective, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, antioxidant, ischemia–reperfusion protective, and anticancer effects, likely mediated through inhibition of microbial growth and modulation of inflammatory and oxidative stress pathways, though a single defined molecular target has not been established.[1][14]
