Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huangzhi is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Sichuan Academy of Chinese Medicine Sciences (Sichuan Institute of Chinese Materia Medica) specifically for the treatment of influenza and other viral respiratory infections. The drug is primarily composed of extracts from *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi) and *Angelica dahurica* (Baizhi), often supplemented with *Artemisia annua* (Qinghao) in the 'Huangzhi Hao' variant. Huangzhi exerts its therapeutic effects through a dual mechanism of direct antiviral activity and immunomodulation. It is designed to enhance the host's innate immune response while inhibiting viral replication and alleviating common symptoms such as fever, nasal congestion, and fatigue. In China, particularly in the Sichuan province, it is utilized as a regulated hospital preparation and has been included in clinical protocols for managing seasonal influenza and emerging viral outbreaks.
