Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huanxiaozhiqiu decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by Dongfang Hospital at the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of Combined Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma Syndrome (CARAS). The formula is designed to address the "one airway, one disease" concept by simultaneously treating upper and lower respiratory tract allergic inflammation. It typically contains a combination of herbs such as Ephedra (Mahuang), Semen Armeniacae Amarum (Xingren), and Magnolia flower (Xinyi), which work synergistically to relieve bronchospasm and reduce nasal congestion. Pharmacological studies suggest that the decoction acts by modulating the Th1/Th2 immune balance, specifically inhibiting the production of Th2-associated cytokines (IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13) and reducing serum IgE levels, thereby suppressing eosinophilic inflammation in both the lungs and nasal passages.
