Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huashi Baidu Granule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula composed of multiple herbal ingredients. It was developed and clinically approved in China for the treatment of COVID-19. The granule has demonstrated antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects in both preclinical and clinical studies. Its mechanism includes inhibition of viral replication (notably SARS-CoV-2), suppression of inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α), and modulation of pathways involved in lung fluid clearance by upregulating AQP1, AQP5, α-ENaC, and Na-K-ATPase expression. Key bioactive compounds identified include magnolol, glycyrrhisoflavone, licoisoflavone A, emodin, echinatin, quercetin (antiviral activity), licochalcone B (anti-inflammatory activity), among others. Clinical trials have shown that early treatment with this granule reduces symptom worsening in mild COVID-19 cases and is comparable to Paxlovid for severe cases[1][2][3][6].
