Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huatan decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by researchers at Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University, specifically for the treatment of amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI). Grounded in the TCM theory of phlegm-turbidity obstructing the orifices, the decoction aims to clear metabolic phlegm and restore cognitive function. Modern pharmacological studies suggest that its mechanism of action involves the regulation of neuroinflammation, reduction of oxidative stress, and potential modulation of amyloid-beta metabolism. Clinical evidence from randomized controlled trials indicates that the decoction significantly improves Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores and reduces serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1β in patients with aMCI. It is typically administered as an oral liquid preparation.
