Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huatan Jiangzhuo decoction (HJD) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula composed of six herbal ingredients: *Atractylodis Rhizoma*, *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma*, *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium*, *Pinelliae Rhizoma*, *Poria*, and *Alisma Rhizoma*. It is traditionally used to treat lipid metabolism-related disorders, including hyperlipidemia, angina pectoris, and fatty diabetes. Research indicates that HJD exerts its lipid-lowering effects by modulating the expression of key genes involved in cholesterol and fatty acid metabolism, such as cholesterol 7-alpha-hydroxylase (CYP7A1), liver X receptor alpha (LXRα), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), and sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1c (SREBP1c). It appears to act through the PPAR, AMPK, and insulin signaling pathways to reduce total cholesterol and triglyceride levels and alleviate hepatic lipid accumulation.
