Overview

Huatanzhike granules are a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation designed for pediatric use, primarily to alleviate cough and resolve phlegm. The formulation contains ipecacuanha tincture, which is known for its expectorant properties. At low doses, ipecacuanha's active alkaloids, emetine and cephaeline, are believed to irritate the gastric mucosa, leading to a reflex increase in mucosal secretions in both the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts. This action helps to thin and loosen phlegm, facilitating its expulsion and promoting a productive cough.
