Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huaxian decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation being investigated for the prevention and treatment of radiation-induced lung injury (RILI). Developed by researchers at Sichuan Cancer Hospital, it is typically administered as an oral decoction alongside standard concurrent chemoradiotherapy for patients with unresectable stage II-III lung cancer or other thoracic tumors. The formulation is designed to mitigate the inflammatory and fibrotic processes associated with radiation exposure to lung tissue, potentially by modulating cytokine pathways and reducing oxidative stress. In clinical trials, it is evaluated for its ability to reduce the incidence and severity of radiation-induced pneumonitis and subsequent pulmonary fibrosis, which are common dose-limiting toxicities of thoracic radiation.
