Overview
Huayu Pills (also known as Huayu Wan or HYW) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Professor Yu Rencun at the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University. It is an in-hospital preparation (Beijing Pharmaceuticals approval number Z20053296) composed of 15 medicinal herbs, including *Paeoniae Radix Rubra*, *Curcumae Radix*, *Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma Rubra*, and *Astragali Radix*. Huayu Pills are designed to supplement qi, activate blood circulation, and detoxify (Yiqi Huoxue Jiedu). Clinically, it is used to treat cancer-associated hypercoagulability and to inhibit tumor progression and metastasis in various cancers, including breast cancer, lung cancer, and ovarian cancer. Mechanistically, Huayu Pills normalize tumor vasculature, alleviate hypoxia by inhibiting the PI3K-Akt/HIF-1 signaling axis, and inhibit platelet activation and tumor metastasis-related factors such as VEGFA, bFGF, and CD62P (P-selectin).
