Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huazhuo Tongmaifang granules (also known as Huazhuo Tongmai Decoction) is an investigational traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed by Xiyuan Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of primary hyperlipidemia and carotid atherosclerosis, particularly in patients presenting with the phlegm-turbidity obstruction syndrome (痰浊阻遏证). The formulation is designed to lower lipid levels and exert anti-atherosclerotic effects. Mechanistically, Huazhuo Tongmaifang granules have been shown to promote cholesterol reverse transport in foam cells, upregulate the expression of ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) and caveolin-1 (Cav-1), and regulate lipid autophagy to inhibit macrophage foam cell formation and reduce arterial plaque progression.
