Overview

This investigational biologic therapy consists of exosomes derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs), developed by Dongfang People's Hospital for the treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). These exosomes are small extracellular vesicles (approximately 30-100 nm) that carry bioactive molecules, including proteins and various RNA species, from their parent stem cells. Administered as a nasal spray, the therapy is designed to achieve brain-specific delivery by bypassing the blood-brain barrier. The mechanism of action is believed to involve the modulation of neuroinflammation and the correction of neuro-immune cross-talk dysregulation associated with ASD. This approach represents a cell-free biologic therapy, offering a potential alternative to direct stem cell transplantation.
