Overview

HUC2-676 is a recombinant glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist developed by Huadong Medicine as a biosimilar to semaglutide. It is being evaluated for the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes. As a GLP-1 receptor agonist, the drug mimics the action of the endogenous GLP-1 hormone, which is released from the gut in response to food intake. It functions by stimulating glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppressing glucagon release, and slowing gastric emptying. Additionally, it acts on the central nervous system to increase satiety and reduce appetite, leading to significant body weight reduction. HUC2-676 is administered via subcutaneous injection and is undergoing clinical studies to establish pharmacokinetic and safety equivalence to the reference product (semaglutide).
