Overview

huCART-meso cells are autologous T-lymphocytes that have been genetically engineered to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) derived from human sequences, specifically targeting the tumor-associated antigen mesothelin. Mesothelin is overexpressed in several malignancies including pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, mesothelioma, and triple-negative breast cancer. The CAR enables these modified T-cells to recognize and kill mesothelin-expressing tumor cells while sparing normal tissues with low-level expression of the antigen. The therapy is investigational and has not received FDA approval; it is currently being evaluated in early-phase clinical trials for safety and feasibility as both monotherapy and in combination with oncolytic virus VCN-01[1][2][3][5][6].
