Overview

hUCB-MNC (China Medical University Hospital) is an experimental allogeneic cell therapy being developed for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke. The therapy consists of mononuclear cells (MNCs) derived from human umbilical cord blood (hUCB), which are cryopreserved and HLA-matched (6/6) to the recipient. Administered intravenously within 10 days of stroke onset, the treatment is uniquely paired with intravenous mannitol to facilitate the penetration of the blood-brain barrier. The therapeutic mechanism is hypothesized to involve the modulation of the post-stroke inflammatory environment, specifically by promoting the polarization of microglia and macrophages toward the neuroprotective M2 phenotype and secreting various growth factors and cytokines to support neural repair and neuroprotection.
