Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hugan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation primarily used for hepatoprotection and the treatment of liver diseases such as chronic hepatitis B, fatty liver, and early-stage cirrhosis. The standard formulation typically includes extracts from *Schisandra chinensis* (Wuweizi), *Bupleurum chinense* (Chaihu), *Artemisia capillaris* (Yinchen), and *Isatis tinctoria* (Banlangen), supplemented with pig gall powder and mung bean. Hugan works by stabilizing liver cell membranes, promoting liver cell regeneration, and reducing the levels of serum transaminases, specifically alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). Beijing Shijia Jiushengyuan Pharmaceutical Technology has conducted Phase 1 clinical trials (e.g., CTR20131792) to evaluate the safety and tolerance of its Hugan Capsule formulation in healthy volunteers, specifically for the indication of hepatitis B.
